Psalms of Devotion – The Spirit of Truth

Passage of the week: “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” – John 14:15-21

Hi everyone,

When reading this week’s passage, at first glance it sounded to me as though this passage was focused solely on obeying God and keeping to the commandments He set out for us.  After deeper reflection, it became clearly evident that there was much more here than just following a set of rules.  God does not seek for us to be robots that obey blindly, but that we follow Him as a response to the love He has shown us and all He’s done to be there for us in our deepest need.  He will never leave us…He will uphold us.  When you look around the world, you can see that many have lost sight of God and don’t recognize him anymore.  We as Christians are blessed that God has given us the spirit of truth that removes the blinders of the world and we have a responsibility to spread this truth throughout the world.  Imagine what kind of world we’d live in if everyone experienced the love of God.  His love changes everything..and His work is not finished yet.

Psalms of Devotion – Love

Passage of the week: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Hi everyone,

It’s one of my favourite Sunday’s of the year. This Sunday, we get to celebrate the most important person in our lives, our Mothers. The scripture for this week is a perfect passage that describes the blessing and gift of love that God has revealed to us and the love that is most  often exemplified through our Mothers. This love is selfless, faithful, patient, and is given to us without asking for anything in return. Similar to God’s love, we don’t have to earn our Mother’s love, they just give it to us. This week’s Psalms of Devotion are centered around this unconditional and beautiful gift of love described in this passage by Apostle Paul. I hope that we can all listen, celebrate and give praise to God for His gift of love and our Mother’s love for us.
Happy Mother’s Day!

Jon

Psalms of Devotion – The LORD is my shepherd

Passage of the week: “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.  He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.  You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.  Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” – Psalms 23

Hi everyone,

As I reflected on this week’s sermon theme it was difficult for me to escape past reflections since the verse is such a famous one.  Something that stood out to me this week however was the simple fact that God is righteous not for us but simply because He is.  He does not owe us a thing, and yet He has sacrificed greatly so we can live an abundant life with God as our guide, our comfort, and as our strength.  Even when we’re unaware, and irresponsible with the love we give to worldly things, He is always there waiting and wanting to restore our souls. Nothing will be lacking when we learn to lean on God and in fact, we will be overflowing with the surplus of His love and mercy.

Introducing Psalms of Devotion

The St. Timothy Praise Team is excited to launch a new project to help bridge the gap introduced by the move to a virtual worship service.

Psalms of Devotion is an initiative aimed at enhancing and continuing our Praise Ministry in this time of physical separation, by providing a virtual guided Praise program that is meant to encourage you, our members, to actively engage in a time of praise, in their own time and space leading up to our Sunday Worship.

Check out the video below to learn more about what this program is all about.

Our first edition centers around this upcoming Sunday Worship’s scripture 1 Peter:17-23. In this passage, The author of 1 Peter calls re-iterates that we are chosen by God and protected by His love and Jesus’ precious sacrifice – rather than being purchased by worldly valuables. Because God is holy, we too should strive to be holy, by first, genuinely loving one another as He loves us.

The songs chosen for this week focuses on God’s love and can be listened to as a prayer to God asking Him to show us how to love one another as He does. I pray that you listen to these songs and hear the message God is speaking to you through them, and through this Sunday’s sermon.

We hope you are blessed by these songs and see you on Sunday!
