My Summer In Spite of COVID

This is a post in a series of reflections during the COVID-19 pandemic. To read other reflections, please go to the Pandemic Reflections page.

Hello, my name is Taebin. I would just like to share how my Summer has been.

This summer for me was pretty eventful. I went back to Korea for 2 months and prepared myself for university in the future. I was very excited to be on this trip to see my family and friends in Korea, but at the same time, I also was worried and uncertain about going on this trip.

Because I live in the countryside in Korea, I did a lot of research on process to get to my home, for quarantine, and on travel restriction when coming back to Canada as well. But at the end of the day, I ended up using none of that information. I had many kind people who lead me on the trip and told me where to go.

One thing that I have realized was that I can only solve problems by simply going through it with courage. Because it was very different from what I have researched before all of this happened.

Learning such a lesson has also affected my perspective on university and all the future problems in my life right now. Just like everyone else, the pandemic has left a huge mark on my university experience – all of my courses are delivered online including orientation and frosh week.

But knowing that this is also one of the challenges that I have to face with faith that God will be with me, I began to have less worries about challenges ahead of me. So I hope that this experience and the lesson I’ve learned helps you overcome any future struggles you may have due to the pandemic.
