Amidst a flurry of assignments, tests and extracurriculars that mercilessly wear us students down to the bone, hi-c gatherings are a much needed escape from this anxiety-inducing world. They provide a safe space for teens to destress, laugh without judgement, and bond with others heart to heart; past the superficiality and the differences that would normally set us apart.
This past Friday, on October 7th, the hi-c came together at church to eat delicious Chinese food, catch up with one another, and play like children once again in a competitive, yet friendly manner. With friends we haven’t seen in a while and new faces we’ve never met, we are so blessed to have gotten along harmoniously.
For the games and activities prepared by our very talented execs, the hi-c first played musical chairs. It’s funny how the simplest games can stir up the most authentic joy within a human being. With the help of a guessing game icebreaker, the hi-c were put into pairs that eventually became their designated teams for the mini Olympics happening shortly afterwards. Each pair represented a different country and funnily enough, Korea ultimately reigned victorious (I promise the result was purely coincidental).
I can’t forget to mention the most memorable part of the gathering… the dance challenges!! Who knew we had this many naturally talented dancers within our community. I’m sure Crush and J-Hope would be very proud.
A special thanks to the execs, Lauren, and Pastor Dave for consistently leading such fun-filled and exciting gatherings every month!! And a huge shout out to Juyeong and Hailey for taking the courage to come out to the gathering and participate so enthusiastically! Lastly, thanks to all the members in our hi-c for the life they bring to this community; your individual presence truly makes all the difference. We missed everyone who couldn’t make it, but we hope to see you next time!!
