INTRODUCTION
St. Timothy’s Vacation Bible School was a blast this year! Spanning from July 2nd to July 12th, Pastor Sunny and Pastor James led the camp with a theme out of this world: “To Mars and Beyond”! It was a great 2 weeks of fun and learning for all the children, as well as all our Hi-C leaders. The kids were able to learn more about God’s word all the while having fun doing different activities and going on multiple field trips. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone again next year!
MORNING WORSHIP
Every Morning VBS kicked off with Morning Worship. In Morning Worship the kids sang and danced to two praise songs before Pastor James taught them about a bible story. Throughout VBS we covered the following stories: The Good Samaritan, Queen Esther, Jesus Heals The 10 Lepers, Jesus Comforts His Friends on The Way to Emmaus and Daniel and the Lion’s Den. After listening to the bible story we ended in prayer before going upstairs for snack time.
SNACK TIME
Snack Time was one of our favourite times of the day. During Snack Time, we munched on some yummy snacks and had a good time of fellowship along with the Youth Camp. Sincere thanks to Mrs. Kee Choe who took time out of her day to prepare these delicious snacks for everyone!
MUSIC TIME
Music Station was run by Emily and Jason. In this station the kids learned new praise songs and had fun playing some music games. Here the kids also practiced the songs and the memory verse that they chose to perform at the family celebration.
OBJECT LESSON
This year, the object lessons planned by Megan and Maddie had lots to do with science experiments. From vinegar and baking soda to coke and mentos, the children were able to see fun and informative explosive reactions for the first time – which they reacted to by breaking out in their toothy smiles and excited ‘Wow!’s.
CRAFT TIME
What better way to distract kids from their hunger than with fun crafts? Over the two weeks of VBS, the children made several crafts with Kaitlin that involved the bible lesson of the day, their own creative ideas, as well as lots and lots of stickers. And by that, we mean lots of them.
GAMES
The Game Station was run by David and Jonathan Rho who planned many creative and fun games for the kids. In this station the kids were able to learn collaborative skills. It was a good time of bonding and utilizing the message from the Bible Story of the day in a more hands on activity.
LUNCH
Lunchtime was another favourite time of the day. We had many groups volunteer to make us all lunch and we are eternally thankful for them. All the food was extremely delicious. It was a great time of bonding and fellowship among campers, leaders and pastors.
GAMES/ICEBREAKERS
Every afternoon the leaders would organize and run one game/icebreaker for the kids to play. This included hand painting, paper airplane competition, scavenger hunt, building Popsicle stick bridges, obstacle courses and more. The kids had a great time getting to know the other kids in different age groups and getting to collaborate with all of their fellow campers.
SKIT
Remember reading about VBS going over Jesus Heals The 10 Lepers in our Morning Worship? It also happened to be the skit that the kids worked really hard to perform for the parents on the Family Celebration! Led by Megan and Kaitlin, all the children were dressed in costumes while they lit up the stage as St. Timothy’s finest rising actors and actresses. We suggest you get all the signatures now!
DANCE
Matthew and Maddie were in charge of afternoon dance. They chose to have the kids dance to Want you back by The Jackson 5, and they performed that for the VBS Celebration. The kids really showcased their best moves and impressed everyone!
SWIMMING/OUTSIDE WATER PLAY
On Thursday July 4th, we walked to the West Deane Park public swimming pool and played outside on the playground for a little while before going in the pool and having a blast! Each child was assigned to a leader and they splashed around together for an hour.
On Thursday July 11, the weather wasn’t very good so we stayed at church to play with water outside. We played with water balloons and water guns and everyone was having a good ol’ time.
CANADA’S WONDERLAND
It was a relief to see the top of every child’s head reach just above the minimum required height line! Our kids and leaders had hours of fun at Canada’s Wonderland, enjoying daunting rides like Ghoster Coaster and Taxi Jam, as well as delicious treats like cotton candy and ice cream. Some of the leaders were crying by the end of the rides, but the kids assured us it was just tears of joy.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, this year’s VBS was a wonderful time of learning and fun for the kids. It was a great place for them to learn more about the bible and God’s word while in a fun environment of positivity and fellowship. We encourage everyone to sign up next year and enjoy the festivities!
