New Wineskins for New Wine

No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old cloak, for the patch pulls away from the cloak, and a worse tear is made. Neither is new wine put into old wineskins; otherwise, the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins are destroyed; but new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.

– Matthew 9:16-17

Memory Verse: “New wine is put into fresh wineskins.” (Matthew 9:17)

If our hearts are not ready, we cannot experience the grace of God. The quality of our heart that allows the grace of God work within us: brokenness, humility and complete faith. The entitlement attitude will not let us experience the power of the grace of God. It will only make us feel hardened.

Lord, take away pride and arrogance within me. Help me to come before you with humility.  Amen.

새 부대

생베 조각을 낡은 옷에 붙이는 자가 없나니 이는 기운 것이 그 옷을 당기어 해어짐이 더하게 됨이요 새 포도주를 낡은 가죽 부대에 넣지 아니하나니 그렇게 하면 부대가 터져 포도주도 쏟아지고 부대도 버리게 됨이라 새 포도주는 새 부대에 넣어야 둘이 다 보전되느니라.

–     마태복음9:16-17

암송구절: “새 포도주는 새 부대에 넣어야 둘이 다 보전되느니라.” (마태복음9:17)

그릇이 준비되어 있지 않으면 은혜가 담길 수 없다. 은혜를 받을 수 있는 그릇은 깨진 심령이고, 겸손한 마음, 온전한 믿음이다. 내 맘대로 주장하려고 하는 마음 속에서 은혜가 역사하지 못할 뿐더러 은혜는 그 마음을 더 강퍅하게 만든다. 

주님, 내 속에 있는 교만과 자존심을 거두어 주시고 온전히 겸손하게 주님 앞에 나오게 하소서. 아멘.
