God has come to us.
The Lord spoke to the people of Israel
and entered into covenant with them.
From Israel came Jesus Christ,
the Son of God,
bringing salvation through a new covenant
entered by faith.
The Lord continues to come to us by the Holy Spirit,
God present in the world,
and Guide to the church, the new Israel.
This section in a nutshell describes the sweeping story of God’s movement throughout history, as interpreted by Christian faith. This is the story that emerges from our Scriptures as we have received them.
The story begins with God’s movement toward us.
In a world where were are constantly searching, longing, and yearning for what is absent in our lives, the premise of our faith – the good news – is that God has come to us.
How God manifests in our lives is a mystery. This mystery can only be seen and perceived when we stop and look at the world with a different set of eyes. Seeing God’s presence in our lives – this presence in the midst of our concrete, daily realities – is at the essence of our spiritual journey.
In our day and age, we tend to trust science, technology, and material reality as the basis for truth. But faith believes that there is more beyond what we can see with our eyes or evidence. We believe that beyond what we see is God.
We as a Church proclaim that God has come to us in the manner recited in this section. My prayer is that in our own lives, we can see God’s movement and presence, and interpret our lives anew in that light.
Dear God, may this be a year where we detect more of your presence in our lives. Give us eyes to see your presence with us today.
