The college group retreat was brought to my attention by Simon Park as he encouraged me to attend this retreat with a new and different perspective as the age group consisted of students going through similar challenges as me. The awkwardness and “timid-ness” that we’ve all encountered at the beginning of church retreats slowly diminished after being medicated with high volumes of pasta and friendly but not really, competitive ice breakers. The ice breakers truly brought out the worst in all of us (even Simon) and so the best way to neutralize a room full of angry Christians was to have a moment of communion.
During the bible study we discovered that we were all in the same arch, none of us knew what displayed true faith. Was it encountering that one moment or sign of God that solidified our faith? Was it our continuous routine of attending church every Sunday that made us true Christians? Or was it receiving advantageous results that displayed evidence of God? After we discussed our curiosities, doubts, and questions about God we came to a realization that there was not one sought out answer to attain true faith. We concurred that validation of God’s work is a process of enduring challenges and successes with God, not simply encountering one symbolic moment or going to church on Sundays. We cannot determine our faith by comparing with others, we must distinguish our own true faith by booking a life long journey with God as our travel guide to ensure we do not get lost.
