Beyond Our Prejudice

He left that place and came to his home town, and his disciples followed him. On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, ‘Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?’ And they took offence at him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are not without honour, except in their home town, and among their own kin, and in their own house.’ And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. And he was amazed at their unbelief.

Memory Verse: “Prophets are not without honour, except in their home town, and among their own kin, and in their own house.” (Mark 6:4)

Jesus could do no deed of power in his home town. People assumed that they knew Jesus by what they knew about him on the surface when, in fact, they didn’t really know Jesus. Their prejudice imprisoned the power of Jesus. When we are consumed with our prejudice, God’s power cannot work within us.

Lord, help me to go beyond my prejudice and enter into your world to experience your power. Amen.

예수께서 거기를 떠나사 고향으로 가시니 제자들도 따르니라. 안식일이 되어 회당에서 가르치시니 많은 사람이 듣고 놀라 이르되 이 사람이 어디서 이런 것을 얻었느냐 이 사람이 받은 지혜와 그 손으로 이루어지는 이런 권능이 어찌됨이냐 이 사람이 마리아의 아들 목수가 아니냐 야고보와 요셉과 유다와 시몬의 형제가 아니냐 그 누이들이 우리와 함께 여기 있지 아니하냐 하고 예수를 배척한지라.예수께서 그들에게 이르시되 선지자가 자기 고향과 자기 친척과 자기 집 외에서는 존경을 받지 못함이 없느니라 하시며 거기서는 아무 권능도 행하실 수 없어 다만 소수의 병자에게 안수하여 고치실 뿐이었고 그들이 믿지 않음을 이상히 여기셨더라.

–     마가복음 6:1-6

암송구절: “선지자가 자기 고향과 자기 친척과 자기 집 외에서는 존경을 받지 못함이 없느니라.”(마가복음 6:4)

예수님은 자기 고향에서 아무 권능도 행하실 수 없으셨다. 그들은 실제로 예수를 알지 못했는데 자기들 눈에 보이는 것으로 예수를 알고 있다고 착각했다. 그런 편견이 예수님의 능력을 묶어 놓았다.우리가 편견 속에 사로잡혀 있을 때 하나님의 능력이 우리 속에서 나타날 수 없다.

주님, 나의 편견을 넘어서서 하나님의 세계 속으로 들어가 하나님의 능력을 경험하게 하소서. 아멘.
