November
Lock-in
Info:
This lock-in was on November 16th to 17th and we had dinner and played games. We also had a mini worship and praise time. There were a couple of new people who came to this lock-in. We also had an all-nighter where we played mini games during it.
Thoughts:
Our thoughts about this lock-in are that we were glad everything went well and we were able to meet new people.
December
Holiday Party
Info:
The Holiday Party was held during the Christmas Break and it was at Jonathan Choe’s house. We had a potluck dinner and played group games and video games until it was time to leave.
Thoughts:
We are glad that we were able to have a Hi-C event during the winter break and meet up with the Hi-C more. We are also glad that the potluck dinner went well and everyone was able to contribute to the dinner. Lastly, we are very thankful to Jonathan Choe’s family for letting us hang out at their home for the Hi-C event.
Christmas Concert
Info:
For the Christmas Concert Hi-C planned a performance. We planned an orchestra kind of thing and had everyone playing an instrument. We played two different songs, which were Silent Night and Jingle Bell Rock
Thoughts:
We had a lot of fun preparing for the Christmas Concert and we’re happy that we were able to do an orchestra instead of a skit, which we always do for every single Christmas Concert. It was nice to switch it up. Although, we wish we were able to plan ahead of time so that we weren’t so stressed about it.
February
Skating
Info:
We had a skating event at Nathan Phillip Square on February 16th. We got there around 4:30 and skated around until 6:00. After we went to a food court in a mall and bought some food. After we finished eating we all went home.
Thoughts:
We had a lot of fun and we’re glad we were able to do this kind of thing because we have never done it before. We’re happy that we were able to hang out with each other and doing something new than what we usually do. Also it was fun to see Reverend Simon and David racing.
March
March Break Retreat
Info:
The March Break Retreat started on March 15th to March 18th. The place we had the retreat was at Crieff Hills. During the retreat we had worship, praise, and games. It was like any other retreat. At this retreat we watched a horror movie and also had some fun talking sessions, especially during the all-nighter.
Thoughts:
This March Break Retreat was very fun and we were able to bond a lot more with each other. We shared a lot of laughs and learnt more about each other.
April
Confirmation on Easter Sunday
Info:
Confirmation classes began 7 weeks before Easter Sunday. The students attending these classes were from grades 10-12 and we studied the book of Luke. We also had study booklets where we wrote down our reflections after reading a chapter of Luke. On Easter Sunday we had confirmation for those who chose that they were ready and wanted to be confirmed.
Thoughts:
Confirmation classes were very educational and allowed us to learn a lot more about living through Christ. These confirmation classes made us more confident in the Christian life and allowed us to share our doubts and overcome them. The confirmation was a very happy day because we were able to see the end of what we started.
May
Lock-in
Info:
This lock-in was on May 18th to May 17th we had chinese food for dinner and then we had worship time. We had some praise time as well. After worship we had a big game that lasted until 12:00 and then we had an all-nighter. During the all-nighter we chatted and played other mini games.
Thoughts:
The lock-in was like any other lock-in and it was very fun. We were able to learn about Christ while also having a lot of fun with each other. We also met some people we haven’t seen in a while.
June
ESM Retreat
Info:
The ESM retreat was on June 21st to June 23rd. Hi-C was there to babysit the children in Kids Church and toddlers. This was so the parents could attend worship themselves and not have to look after the kids the whole time. Hi-C looked after the kids for the duration of worship time and we also played some games with the adults and the College students.
Thoughts:
It was fun looking after the kids but sometimes it was really tiring and we were kind of disappointed that we couldn’t partake in the worship and have our own Hi-C time. We were glad we got some experience in taking care of kids, it was like a preview of what VBS was going to be like. In the end we all had a good time but we were also exhausted.
End of School Year Party
Info:
We had an end of school year party to celebrate the end of the school year. It was held on July 28th at 7:00 to 9:00 at Justin’s house. We had dinner that was prepared by Justin’s parents and we ate BBQ. After eating we had some games and chatted.
Thoughts:
We’re glad we had an event to kick off the summer break and start it off with a party. It was a very fun time and the food was really good. We had fun playing games and chatting with each other, but it could have been a bit longer.
July
Internship
Info:
This internship was for grade 10-12 and it started on July 2nd and it ended on August 2nd, for some students, or August 23rd for others. During this internship everyone had to be a counselor for VBS for the first two weeks of their internship. Later, everyone was split up and some went to Evangel Hall, the Museum, or KCWA. We also had a mini retreat with the college students and read through Phillipians and a bit of Romans. There were also times where we stayed at church and did some planning for Hi-C events or did transcribing. We also had to do many reflections over the duration of the internship.
Thoughts:
Internship was a good experience. It allowed us to be in a work environment and also bond with each other. We learnt a lot about how to make resumes and how to look for jobs as well. We were also productive in making plans for Hi-C since we were always together, and we also made a lot more plans for Hi-C during the summer than usual.
Hi-C Friday Get-Together
Info:
This event was held on July 19th at 6:00 to 9:00. We brought the couches from downstairs to the fellowship hall and put blankets and pillows around, and set up lights. We started the evening off with chinese food for dinner and then we had a short praise session, and everyone was singing. Then we played some beer pong and took an hour. After we just had some chat time and chilled until we had to leave.
Thoughts:
The Hi-C get-together was such a chill time. We had a chill vibe with the lights, couches, blankets and pillows. It was also really great when we all sang praise songs and everybody sang together. Playing beer pong was really fun as well. We’re glad everything went well but it could have been better if we played something else as well as playing beer pong, and if it were a bit longer.
August
Coffee House:
Info:
The Coffee House event was a congregation wide event planned by Hi-C. It was planned on August 10 at 7:00 to 9:00. We had many performances from the whole congregation and we also sold drinks and snacks.
Thoughts:
Coffee House went better than expected and had a good turnout. The performances were really good and fun. We were able to raise a lot of money to give to the church. I wish we had a little bit more of a diverse turnout and was more organized, but it was still a fun night.
Youth Camp and Hi-C Meet Up
Info:
This event was held on August 14th at 12:00pm to 3:00pm. This event was for the Youth Camp kids to get to know the Hi-C kids and be a bit more before they go to the Hi-C retreat. This way the Youth Camp kids will not be so overwhelmed when they get to the Hi-C retreat. We had pizza for lunch and then after eating for an hour we had praise and then we played icebreaker games and one big game. After we had some small group discussions and talked about the future of Hi-C.
Thoughts:
This was a fun event and we were also able to get to know the Youth Camp kids more and play games with them. This event also allowed the Youth Camp kids to get a bit more comfortable with Hi-C before the retreat. It also allowed the Hi-C to know how they were feeling about Hi-C and what their personalities were like so we could use that during the retreat, like making the groups.
